2014

The Beginning
Aqua Comms was founded with a mission to build and operate cutting-edge subsea cable networks. The vision was to deliver secure, high-capacity connectivity across the Atlantic, meeting the demands of the ever-growing digital economy.

2016

AEC-1 Goes Live
Connecting New York to Ireland and the UK, our flagship route uses state-of-the-art technology to provide unparalleled transatlantic capacity.

2019

Expanding Our Network
The launch of CeltixConnect-2 and North Sea Connect, form the North Atlantic Loop, a resilient, redundant pathway between North America and Europe .

2020

AEC-2 Goes Live
Connecting the East Coast of the US with Ireland, and Northern Europe

2023

AEC-3 Goes Live

Our 24/7 Network Operations Centre (NOC) ensures continuous monitoring and management of our subsea cable systems. Our dedicated team of engineers offer rapid response to any network issues, providing peace of mind for our customers.

Alan Harper
Executive Chairman

Alan was appointed to the Aqua Comms board in November 2020 and appointed as Chairperson in August 2021.  Alan is an operating partner at Digital 9 Infrastructure PLC. Previously he was strategy director for Vodafone Group PLC from 1995 until 2007 when he founded Eaton Towers which was sold to American Tower for $1.9bn in 2019. Alan was also an independent board director of MTN from 2010 to 2019.

Nick Barton
Chief Commercial Officer

Nick Barton is Chief Commercial Officer at Aqua Comms and is responsible for direct sales and Global accounts.

Nick joined Aqua Comms in 2020 and brings a broad range of industry experience to Aqua Comms, having had more than 27 years in sales and management roles in the Telecoms Sector and Global experience in the Hyperscale sector.

Nick held previous roles at Level 3, Verizon and Colt and has more than 10 years expertise in Middle East, India and Africa business development.

Thomas Grant
Chief Networks Officer

Thomas is the Chief Networks Office at Aqua Comms. He is responsible for network and systems development as well as the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the Aqua Comms Network. Thomas joined Aqua Comms in April 2022, and has over 25 years' experience in the design, build and operation of carrier class networks.

Thomas has held senior roles at enet, Interoute and C&W.

Sandra Delany
General Counsel

Sandra is General Counsel and ESG Officer at Aqua Comms, with responsibility for all of the company’s legal, compliance, regulatory and environmental sustainability, social and corporate governance matters.

Sandra brings a wide range of experience working with both indigenous and multinational companies on global technology, engineering and telecommunications projects.

Sandra has held previous international roles as Group Legal Director at global engineering solutions company, Actavo Group, and at BAE Systems as Head of Legal – Applied Intelligence NetReveal.

Sandra is a qualified solicitor and has an LL.B from Trinity College Dublin, and an LL.M (Computers and Law) from Queens University Belfast.

Mark Kelly
Chief Financial Officer

Mark is Chief Financial Officer at Aqua Comms, and is responsible for all of the company’s financial functions.

Mark joined Aqua Comms in May 2019 as Head of FP&A, bringing over 20 years' financial experience to the company. Prior to joining Aqua Comms he was Head of FP&A at the Irish Stock Exchange for 5 years, and has held senior finance roles within top tier global companies including GE, JP Morgan and BNP Paribas. Mark began his finance career in his native Dublin, is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Accountants (ACCA) and holds a BA degree from UCD Dublin.

Amit Vyas
CEO, Aqua Comms India

Amit is the CEO of Aqua Comms India having joined Aqua Comms in 2022 when it acquired Openbyte Infrastructure.

Amit has more that 20 years' experience in the telecommunications industry. He started his career as head of mergers and acquisitions for Bharti Airtel and then as head of subsea investments for Airtel where he was responsible for their entire international network.

During his career he has managed multiple large subsea projects across India and in 2012 founded Saltwater Cables, a company focussed on providing technical, commercial and operational solutions to global telcos and suppliers.

In 2019 Amit founded Openbyte Infrastructure and acquired a Unified Telecom license in India. He has particular experience in regulatory matters relating to wholesale and enterprise business with a focus on enabling large transactions relating to open access cable landings, spectrum allocation, managed fibre pair sales to carriers and OTT’s.

Amit is based in India.

Zoe Ennis
Head of HR

Zoe joined Aqua Comms as Head of HR in 2022 and has over 20 years experience in Human Resources, specialising in global technology SMEs. Zoe previously held roles at Milner Browne, Enterpryze, Veolia, Ceva and Trintech.

Diego Massidda

Diego has over 20 years’ operating experience in global telecommunications and digital infrastructure. Diego oversees the delivery of D9 and Investee Companies’ strategic objectives and value creation, across both portfolio optimisation, as well as origination of investment opportunities.

Johnny Shine

Johnny joined the Board of Aqua Comms in May 2021. Johnny is the former Deputy Chief Executive of ESB, Ireland’s largest electricity utility and was Managing Director of eir Networks from 2013 to 2016.

He has extensive experience in large scale infrastructure development across the energy and telecoms sectors and currently serves on the Board of Greenlink, a 500 MW DC Interconnector Project under construction between the UK and Ireland.

Johnny is an Adjunct Professor with UCD’s Energy Institute, a leading research organisation focused on driving the transition to a decarbonised energy system.

Arnaud Jaguin

Arnaud was appointed to the Aqua Comms board in November 2022, and is currently Investment Director at Digital 9 Infrastructure.

He has over 15 years’ experience in telecoms and digital infrastructure, with a strong focus on fibre and wireless networks.

He leads the D9 team on investment analysis, portfolio management and strategy, and engages actively with investors. Arnaud also sits on the Boards of Verne Global, Host Ireland and Arqiva.
