Reducing Power Draw in Subsea Networks

As demand for Transatlantic capacity continues to grow, so too does the need for power sources to keep the networks running.

Aqua Comms is proud of its commitment to sustainability, so we’re always asking ourselves how we increase supply while at the same time reducing our power requirements.

The launch of a new fibre pair on our AEC-1 system this year provided us the perfect opportunity to model potential improvements; the existing fibre pair acted as a benchmark for what we could achieve with the new one.

After some intensive R&D, three potential solutions were identified: upgrading transponders, reducing regeneration, and optimising backhauls.
